Not easy to find new recipes, but here is a new one: a refreshing figs-eggs-avocado salad, http://smitakislesvos.com/en/eating-fig-flowers/

Fire on the island

Seeing a wall of flames racing towards you and the house, makes your worst nightmare come true. But there was so much luck that day: the house, the animals and everybody were okay after lots of people together with the fire brigade managed to put the fire out: http://smitakislesvos.com/en/1505-2/

The Great Drive

While Athens builds The Great Walk, straight through the historical center, West-Lesvos also is under the spell of a road-build-fever. The building of the road Kalloni – Sigri has never been progressed so quickly and all other roads are being covered with a new layer of asphalt: http://smitakislesvos.com/en/the-great-drive-2/

Where is the Greek sun?

This corona-summer until now has been reigned by clouds and pop-up showers. Even that the famous blue sky is often to be seen and the temperature has finally reached a summerly level, it seems like the weather is also suffering from corona: continue reading -> http://smitakislesvos.com/en/where-is-the-greek-sun/

Beetroot divorce

In ancient times, when beetroots only grew along the Mediterranean coasts, it were only the leaves that were eaten. Nowadays the leaves are a bit forgotten, even that they can be served in so many tasty dishes: http://smitakislesvos.com/en/beetroot-divorce/

The mystery of Polichnitos

You miss something of Lesvos when you didn’t roam along the streets of the little town of Polichnitos. Who knows more about this intriguing rebellious house? continue reading: http://smitakislesvos.com/en/the-mystery-of-polichnitos/

January, 28 - The works of Sigri

In the summer you can always wake me up for a trip to Sigri. There’s delicious food and a cozy village beach on the dazzling blue bay, along with numerous long sandy beachesthat stretch out beyond the picturesque village. The only beach cafe you will find there is at Faneromeni (Etsi), the other beaches are at most disturbed by bunches of screaming seagulls. Etsi, managed by Nondas, is in a totally deserted landscape between large fields and some low sand dunes that temper the foaming waves. The impressive emptiness and the seldom quiet sea give the utmost feeling of serenity. Nondas serves only coffee, alcoholic drinks and toast, unless you make a reservation and arrange to have Nondas’ mother cook for you. Having lunch in this quietness is a dream. At least for me. read further -> The works of Sigri

January, 21 - I am ashamed

When the new Greek government took office in July 2019 they wiped the Ministry of Migration from the table. The responsibility for migrants and refugees was shifted between different ministries until it was decided to reinstall a Ministry of Migration. It took them five months to realize that Greece not only had an economic crisis to deal with but also has a huge refugee problem. Read further -> I am ashamed

November, 22 - Climate change
